Record results..for third consecutive year

Queensbury School students have once more achieved record  5A*-C grades and including Maths & English. Mr Worthington, Headteacher, is delighted with these results and pays tribute to the commitment of his staff and  his students efforts. These results complement the good A Level results gained by Queensbury students last Thursday.

Improving Communication

Many of you will have noticed the new design of the Queensbury School website which, in addition to staff and student areas, has an area for parents and carers.  The “what’s on” section of the front page has made it much easier for everyone to see the key dates that are approaching.  September will see the introduction of two new ways to communicate with parents and carers that will help them keep up to date with school events and engage with their child’s learning. These are a text / email service and on-line reporting.

Big Apple awaits Queensbury’s winning students

A team of four Year 8 pupils from Queensbury School were voted winners by the judges in the Big Deal Enterprise Competition 2010 final on Monday 12 July.  The judges, one of whom was from IT giant, Google, remarked that the winning team had “an original idea and a sound business plan”, and that “their learning outcomes had been impressive”. 4 out of the 5 judges voted for team Dynamic.

Home Access Grants – 10,000 Grants left to award

News just in, applications for Home Access Grants are still being accepted, although availability is limited and will be awarded on a first come, first served basis.

If you know someone that may be eligible who missed out earlier in the year, tell them to contact the Home Access helpline on 0333 200 1004 and apply as soon as they can.

Schools Regatta day

What a fantastic day 14 of our year 9 students had at Doe Park Water Activities Centre on 15th July 2010.  Our students took part in a Schools Regatta day which involved competing against 5 other schools in sailing, kayaking and canoeing. 

Not only did a number of them win medals in individual categories but also by working as a team they secured the school overall positions of 2nd and 3rd places!

E-Community Choir

From February 2010 5 of our year 7 pupils have had the opportunity to take part in a special new project organised in partnership with the local primary schools in the area to form a community choir.  As part of this project the choir performed at the Rio Grand in Bradford and Victoria Theatre in Halifax.   Both performances were a great success and the choir had a very enjoyable and rewarding experience.

Our first week back since the holiday was a very busy week for Y11 students. I am very pleased with the excellent attendance at all the ‘master classes’ that extra focus just before an exam will pay off! Friday 11th June was a very exciting day for our Y10 Performing Arts students as they played host to Jonny Dixon, Coronation Street fame and Phil Hill (Pearson) a former student and a recent addition to ‘Shameless’ but I am told not to elaborate!!! Both actors have commented how much they enjoyed working with our students. Read more…
